CAPTAINS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 2015
To all those who wish to know if I've enjoyed my year as Captain, my answer is a resounding, "Yes." However it would be presumptuous to respond to those who would like to know how successful I think I've been. I'll leave that for others to decide but I must say that I have enjoyed the journey even though it has not always been smooth.
There have been a number of changes throughout the year mainly concerning our clubhouse facilities and not all of them planned. Nevertheless your Committee has worked hard to address all issues and introduce changes that will meet the challenges of the future. Some of the changes have gone unnoticed such as the upgrade to our internal communication system including a new computerised till and scorecard system. Others have had an immediate visual impact e.g. Teaching facility, the memorial clock and refurbishment of the clubhouse. However, they all come at a cost and some things have to wait but I'm confident that the buggy store and the locker room projects are still "on the table" for next year's committee to keep you posted.
As you may be aware, I've always enjoyed the odd shandy and a good "knees-up" so I have particularly enjoyed the social events. My thanks to you all for your fantastic support, as illustrated by the one hundred and six who attended my final official function, Captain's Dinner. A great night to round off a wonderful year!
I've already made my thanks to individuals which I'm not going to repeat here in fear that some may slip my mind, as a lot of things seem to do these days.
The committee is now gearing up for the "AGM" on the 10th.Dec, where we will have a change of personnel for 2016. I offer my best wishes to the new members and my thanks to those longstanding members who have served the club well over many years, particularly those who are not seeking re-election. There is no doubt that they will all be hard acts to follow.
It is very sad that our old friend and ever popular Bob Woollaston has not been able to take up his position of incoming President. He will be greatly missed and in our thoughts for many years to come. I am sure that the outstanding turnout for his funeral and reception back at the Club was of some comfort to Margaret and family at this difficult time. R.I.P. Bob.
It will soon be over to our new Captain Andy Baxter, so let's all give him the start he deserves by supporting his first official functions, "Christmas Dance" on 12th. Dec. and "New Year's Eve Dance". Best wishes, Andy for a very successful year.
So it's a heartfelt thank you and cheerio from me. Have a great festive break and all the best for 2016.
It's been a privilege to serve as Captain.

QUIZ NIGHT
The final quiz of the series was possibly the most enjoyable. In a relaxed atmosphere, 9 teams gathered on Thursday last week to compete over, the now traditional, eight rounds of ten questions. Steve (Wales) took on the role of quiz master again while compiler Andrew (Baxter) manned the computer to display the impressive score board. A complimentary buffet was enjoyed after the third round when the customary picture rounds were distributed to the engrossed teams.
As with previous quizzes Jayne 'now past it' L.C. sought support for her charity (Donna Louise Hospice) by holding 3 different bottles for raffles. All were readily taken up and won by Jade (bar staff), Andrew (Baxter) NOT a FIX, and Marcus (Wood) a previous visitor. Sincere thanks were expressed by her as in total all six quizzes have made £250 so far for the charity.
A further 5 rounds ensued to reach the climax of the evening which resulted 'No Pressure Jen' (Barry & Gwen Turner with Roy & Jen Williams) triumphant with 176pts to maintain the lead from 'The SS' (Steve & Sally Longhorn with Julie Wales). Propping up the leader board were 'ASBO's' and 'Very Simple-Honest' who both received consolation prizes.
To round the evening off there was a Rollover Question worth £80 to play for.
Q. "Mother Teresa, who was born in Macedonia but lived most of her life in India, won the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize and founded the Missionaries of Charity. How old was she when she died?"
A. 87
A fitting question to end the series on as the winners were unable to answer correctly and hence the charity coffers were swelled even more to a grand total of £307.70!! I can't thank Andrew, Steve, Sam, all the competitors and house staff enough for all their support throughout this season of quizzes. It's made 2015 very special for me.
