Faulty Towers Murder Mystery

"5* STAR ENTERTAINMENT. . ." Ask anyone who attended this brilliant occasion.

The 85 guests were greeted by Polly (Lady Captain) and The Major (Mr Vice Captain - pictured below)

Quite a number had made the effort to dress for the occasion and we saw knotted handkerchiefs to evening formal dining attire! They were treated to table service for drinks as well as the five course meal prepared by John Challinor and his 12 assistants.

The first scene started promptly at 7.30pm and all were advised to make copious notes as the evening unfolded whilst clues were acted out by the actors playing Manuel, Basil, Polly, Sybil and the Inspector.

An observation test ensued during the latter part of the evening and the triumphant team - ("Big Richards!" I'll not print their actual name!) received an engraved silver platter for the 23 points they achieved.

It was agreed by the majority of teams that Polly did the dirty deed of murdering the German visitor in room four. Nothing but praise was received for all the efforts put in by so many people and the general consensus agreed that we'll do it again sometime. L.C.

Remembrance Sunday

On Sunday 8th November the juniors will again be manning the half way house but this time all proceeds will be going to the Poppy Appeal.

This is a lovely way in which we can say that the juniors of Leek Golf Club have been involved with the local community. Gentleman who have taken part in wars will be there during the day, so please support this wonderful cause even if you do not want anything to eat or drink a small donation to the Poppy Appeal would be really appreciated.

Ladies news

Lady Captain's Farewell

The ladies held their final competition of the season on Tuesday 13th October 2015, this being Lady Captain's Farewell. The competition was played as an individual stableford.

On completion of the course we were met in the club house by Carolyn Trafford specialising in skincare, aromatherapy, facial and hands treatment, to name but a few. The company is called 'Neal's Yard Remedies'. A number of ladies took part in some of the treatments. I volunteered to have a facial during which Carolyn did a very informative talk on the products used. The treatment was most relaxing.

Lady Captain arranged musical entertainment resulting in our being serenaded by Dos Amigos. The background music was very pleasant during an enjoyable meal provided by Andrew, the relief chef.

The prize winners for the day were as follows and the prizes were generously donated by Lady Captain:-

Silver

1st Joy Briggs 27 pts,
2nd Karen Griffiths 26 pts
3rd Sue Spooner 25 pts.

Bronze

1st Sheila Hollins 39 pts
2nd Ann Cockersole 36 pts
3rd Janet Gilbert 35 pts.

Prizes were also presented to ladies who had won competitions earlier in the year. Our thanks go to Marilyn Boulton, Nel Boulton, Jane Fallows, Chris Birch, Maria Wootton, Jan Walker, Pauline Swindells and Glenys Millhouse who very kindly presented prizes to the winners of their competitions. We are very grateful to these ladies and all the ladies who over the years continue to give their support to the Ladies Section.

Finally we wish to thank Lady Captain for her generosity in providing us with the prizes and entertainment to make this a very enjoyable day,

Maria Wootton

Lady Captain's 3 Shires Charity Day

The final total raised for the Donna Louise Children's Hospice on 30th Sept. was £1216. Thanks must go to all the sponsors, friends & members who supported me on that day.

A great result for the charity.

Staffordshire Vets Lady Captain Lunch

Leek Golf Clubs Jenny Cordon held her end of season Vets County Captains Lunch last Friday at Leek Golf Club.

Ladies from all over the county were wined and dined to a three course meal and after there were speeches summing up the seasons highlights.

Staffordshire maintained the Inter County Championship in which Jenny thanked all who had played and supported her throughout the season.

All the ladies were very impressed with the new décor in Leek Golf Club.
