CAPTAINS MESSAGE SEPTEMBER
I thought I'd be winding down by now. No chance! Something always crops up.
It's been a busy month for golf with President's Day for Ladies, Mixed AM-AM Open which although not fully subscribed was a very successful event and then there was the Senior Captain's Day at Disley. I won't ever again complain about Leek being hilly. Even Ralph shied away from the thought of 36 holes at Disley.
On behalf of Lincoln and myself, I thank everyone involved in supporting the annual Captain v President match which took place on the 12th September. Forty-Eight players. What a field! Of course Lincoln put on my good nature yet again with the team selection to win the match.
Interclub matches have been successful due to the efforts of our Vice Captain. Thanks to Andrew and all of you who support these events. Also, thanks to our Lady Captain, Jayne Baxter for organising the mixed fixtures and Mike Wainwright who continues to do an excellent job in arranging the Seniors' events. You all play a major part in promoting our club and maintaining its standing as one of Staffordshire's premier golf clubs.
The new clubhouse furniture has been with us for several weeks and the positive reaction from many quarters has been pleasing. I must admit that I was apprehensive about the dramatic change and how it would be received. However, there is no doubt that the visual aspect of the clubhouse has been uplifted. Well done to members of the House Sub-Committee for their vision.
I am really looking forward to my first "Murder Mystery" event on Saturday 24th October which I understand is almost fully booked. You'll have to hurry if you want a ticket.
The "Steering Group" is in the process of finalising details for projects to be considered by the Management Committee. The major one relates to refurbishment of the men's locker room which, at an estimated cost of £87,000 will need AGM approval for the "go ahead". Details of this proposal with locker samples are to be displayed in the clubhouse.
A formal complaint has been received on behalf of a number of members who have expressed dissatisfaction with the current condition of the course. It would be inappropriate for me to comment further whilst the matter is still being investigated but I can confirm that your committee treats all complaints seriously and will do its utmost to address members concerns.
Finally I would like to invite you all to my "Captains Dinner" on 21st November but please be mindful that tickets are limited for this formal dinner event so early booking is advised. Johnny Issacs and partner have been booked to complement the entertainment and perhaps add a touch of class to the occasion.
That's all for now but please keep your comments coming in.
Captain 2015.

STOTT WINS STAFFS SENIORS MATCHPLAY FINAL
Leek golfer Duncan Stott (handicap 2) has achieved his seasons target by winning the Seniors Matchplay title from Terry Henwood from Walsall Golf Club.
The 36 hole final started at the prestigious Leek Golf Club on Monday and after dominating the match Duncan was able to take a substantial lead of 5 up to the tricky tree lined course 48 hours later.
At Walsall Terry Henwood holed a much needed birdie on the 1st hole to reduce the deficit to 4 down but from that point onwards there was only ever going to be one winner. Stott consistently hit the fairways and greens and closed the game out by lagging his putts up to the hole side.
Victory was confirmed when he parred the par 3 12th hole and Henwood graciously conceded the match by a 7&6 margin.
Stott commented "I am delighted to have won my first County Seniors title and Terry has been an incredible player over the years so it was a tough game".
