PRO CAPTAIN CHALLENGE
PRO / CAPTAIN SUFFER FIRST DEFEAT IN CHALLENGE MATCH
The successful partnership of Stewart Townsend (13) and Geoff Lawrence (6) inflicted the narrowest of defeats on the Club Professional and the Captain when they played their 4BBB match last Friday. The match finished with Townsend and Lawrence 1 up but the margin of the win could have been much bigger. "They played very well and we couldn't handle giving them shots at key times" said the Captain in the form of a pitiful excuse. Renowned for his inability to accept defeat gracefully the Captain went on to comment "Geoff birdied the 4th from a couple of feet and when Stewart birdied the 5th (with a shot) from a couple of feet we knew that we were in a spot of bother". Everything started well when Greg managed to start with a 3 but he had to wait until the 8th to get his second birdie of the round. At the half way point the Pro/Captain team were quite happy to be only 2 down even though it should have been less had Greg not missed 2 three footers on the 2nd and the 9th. The 10th saw the comeback start when both the Pro and the Captain gained birdies however this comeback was short lived when Stewart earned nett birdies on the 11th and the 13th to make the score 3 up with 5 to play. Greg was surprised on the 12th when Geoff seemed out of the hole and Stewart was in the bunker off the tee to watch, with admiration, Stewart's excellent recovery shot which gave him a 6 foot birdie opportunity. "It was almost a shame that Stewart failed to hole it" said the Captain, "but it was the best shot of the day by miles".
When the Captain failed miserably to use his shots to win the 14th and 15th the writing appeared to be on the wall but Greg hit the 16th in 2 to gain a valuable birdie to reduce the margin to 2 down with 2 to play. The Captain managed to win the 17th with a par so with the score being 1 down 1 to play there was everything to play for. Shots were being given to both Geoff and Stewart up the 18th but when the Pro conjured up a birdie 3 one of the challengers needed to 2 putt to win the match. Geoff left his putt 3 inches below the hole to win the match and through gritted teeth the Captain extended his hand and conceded it. "It was a good game played in the right spirit. We are dead chuffed to have won" said Stewart.
Geoff Lawrence was keen to add "That was great. I am sure that the members will enjoy their experience of playing with the Professional and it's nice to know that any money raised will go to support the Captain's Charity"
If anyone wishes to participate in the Pro/Captain Challenge just arrange a date with Greg or Jake in the shop.

I am advised that this covers third party liability for damage or injury caused by driving a golf buggy whilst playing golf and consequently removes the need for members who own their own buggies to now provide evidence of insurance to the club. Please note that the cover is third party only and will not cover any loss that you may suffer.
Trolley Store: The additional store has been erected and is currently being fitted out. Work should be completed and spaces allocated by the end of the month. STAFFS PGA ALLIANCE BLOXWICH
After a poor results run of results to start the year it is looking marginally better after Bloxwich although the result was not good, only managing 32 points, the overall game was much better.
The course played very long and the weather was not nice, especially the sleet on the 13th, none of this helped the team score of 74, but I would like to thank all 3 new members for supporting the event - Rob Taylor, Dave Lowe and John Rogula.
I look forward to next week at Walsall Golf Club.
