New golf academy opens at leek golf club
Do not worry anymore about your golf game!
Whether you require custom fitting for a new set of clubs, a full technical analysis of your golf swing or you fancy playing a round of golf at St Andrews on the state of the art simulator, all of your needs can be catered for at the new £40,000 "Golf Academy" at Leek Golf Club.
Here is a picture of Captain Trevor Eccleston cutting the ribbon to open the teaching bay.
This community inspired project will allow all standards of golfers the opportunity to experience the very best practice and game improvement facilities that Midlands golf has to offer under the watchful eye of Club Professional Greg Rogula.
"This is not only a fantastic state of the art teaching facility but it is also a custom fitting centre for Mizuno, PING, Titleist, TaylorMade and Callaway golf equipment. Alternatively if you are short of time or do not fancy playing in the poor weather during the winter months you may wish to move indoors and use the simulator to play on some of the world's best courses such as The Belfry, St Andrews or even Pinehurst in the USA."
Club Captain, Trevor Eccleston says:
"This is a very proud moment for the members of Leek Golf Club because we are able to open our doors to everyone in the community who wants to give this, sometimes difficult, game a try. I have to thank the Sports Council for their support of LGC over the years and also the Club's Management Committee for having the vision and ambition to compete with the very best Golf Clubs within the Midlands area".
Club President, Lincoln Boulton went on to say:
"Leek Golf Club understood the need to provide the Club Professional with a more superior teaching facility to enable him to engage more fully with our own club members but nowadays there is also a need to provide a level of technology so that members and visitors are able to obtain a greater than ever before understanding of their own personal golf swings. The Trackman equipment will provide data on swing speeds, flight paths and the exact position of the clubface at impact which will result in a better quality of lesson being provided by the Professional so that the member may then experience a more rapid improvement in results. We are very proud to have Greg as our Professional at LGC and we feel that by working together we can maintain our reputation as one of the best Golf Clubs in Staffordshire".
So, whether you require a full swing analysis under the watchful eye of our PGA Professional, a custom club fitting or a game on one of Staffordshire's premier courses, contact Greg Rogula at Leek Golf Club on 01538 384779 or email to enquiries@leekgolfclub.co.uk

Stotty performs well at county 6`s but Gally suffers a horror round!
The County 6s is one of the highlights of the Midland's golfing calendar and this year involved all 10 of the Midland Counties sending their "best 6" players to compete over 36 holes of medal play. This year`s event was held at Hagley Golf Club in Worcestershire and Staffs fancied their chances with Bob Aston- Scratch (Trentham Park), Dunc Stott -2 (Leek), Roger Humphreson-3 (South Staffs), Mark Ashton-3 (Ingestre Park), Colin Woolley -4 (South Staffs) and Dave Gallimore-4 (Leek). Each team would have their worst score from the morning and afternoon rounds deleted from their teams totals leaving the best 5 scores to count. The lowest aggregate team score would be declared the winners and become the Midland's representatives in the National Finals.
Morning Scores
Bob Aston 74
Colin Woolley 80
Dunc Stott 79
Mark Ashton 87
Roger Humphreson 80
Dave Gallimore 95
Afternoon Scores
Bob Aston 78
Colin Woolley 81
Dunc Stott 79
Dave Gallimore 83
Roger Humphreson 75
Mark Ashton 88
Bob Aston achieved a fantastic 2nd place overall in the individual event losing narrowly to Steve Carpenter of Worcs (ex-international) who managed rounds of 74,72. Worcestershire were declared the winners with Shropshire in 2nd place overall. Staffordshire came a creditable 3rd place overall with Duncan achieving a deserved 11th position.
Lady captain's day away: Chesterfield G.C.
Thursday, 13 August saw 24 ladies travel to Chesterfield for our annual outing together.
Fortunately the weather was fine and dry after worries about the very adverse forecast by the weather man! Unlike previous years, our numbers were boosted by seven gentlemen who took advantage of the arranged package with the promise that they wouldn't cross-dress!!
After frantic phone calls to one absentee lady (who was mistaken about the tee-off time) all ventured into unknown territory having indulged in bacon baps, tea and coffee in the attractive clubhouse.
At the half-way house, hospitably manned by 'David', the ladies were welcomed to sparkling wine and nibbles by courtesy of the Lady Captain, with jocular company provided by the gentlemen of Chesterfield who were suitably impressed when offered a 'nibble' too!! Opinions expressed felt that the course was very well presented and the greens - testing. The Leek gentlemen competed in an individual Stableford competition, whilst the ladies played a 4BBB competition. Chesterfield male Champion on the day was Ralph Harrison with 37pts, a great score on a course he'd never played before, receiving a quality bottle of wine for his achievement.
The ladies gathered for a photo shoot before sitting down together for 'Individual Hand Made Steak Pies' with vegetables followed by Vanilla Cheese with berries, tea & coffee.
The presentation afterwards produced the following results:
Nearest the Pin (on 15th par 3) Chris Birch
1st Place (47pts) Pat Beeson & Karen Griffiths
2nd Place (44pts) Gill Damjanovic & Andrea Martin
3rd Place (43pts) Nel Boulton & Wendy Thornhill on the back nine (23pts) from Marilyn Boulton & Ann Cockersole (b.n.21pts) and Jan Moss & Jen Flavell (b.n.19pts)
All received a bottle of wine and vouchers to spend in Leek G.C. Pro's shop.
Grateful thanks was expressed for the hospitality shown by all at Chesterfield G.C. with my sincere gratitude to Andrew (Baxter) for all his help on the day and Ralph (Harrison) for organising the men!

Staffordshire vets retain trophy
Last week Staffordshire beat Warwickshire 7 games to 1 at Ingestre Golf Club to retain the Veterans Inter County Scratch Trophy. This is a round robin trophy and they had previously beaten Worcestershire 5 ½ games to 2 ½ at Droitwich in May. Staffs Captain, Leek Golf Club`s Jenny Cordon, was delighted with the result. "We won the trophy last year for the first time since 2007 and we have all played exceptionally well to regain this trophy. I am proud and privileged to Captain this Staffordshire side. It was a great team performance"
