STAFFS PGA ALLIANCE
In the 2nd PGA Alliance the scores were pretty much the same as the previous week but the conditions were much tougher, it was held at Whittington Heath Golf Club and although very windy we were very fortunate to miss the rain.
I would like to thank my playing partners Mr Vice-Captain (Trevor Eccleston), John Prince and Graham Cook for a most enjoyable round of golf and look forward to playing with them in the future.
LEEK PRO AM
We are delighted to announce that the Leek Pro Am will be going ahead on Thursday 7th August 2014, I would like to thank all members and sponsors for entering their teams and I know they will be looking forward to playing with some of the top Professionals from the PGA Midland Region including ex Ryder Cup stars Peter Baker and David Gilford.
All Club members are invited to enter a team into this prestigious event but spaces are limited to the first 40 applicants. If you would like to enter a team or become a valued sponsor of this fantastic event please contact Greg or Jake in the Professionals shop. All sponsors will receive enhanced packages incorporating advertising and hospitality for their guests on the day.
Our Pro AM will be one of the biggest events of the year for Leek Golf Club and an opportunity for members to fulfil their dreams and to play with the very best players that the Midland Region has to offer. Please try to support your Club in whatever way you can because this event takes a lot of time and effort from a team of dedicated members to ensure that it runs smoothly. I would like to thank in advance John Cooper former organiser of the Pro Am events for the invaluable help, advice and experience that he has shared with us up to date, as he was the Pro Am Organiser for many years previous.

SENIORS V WOLSTANTON
Leek hosted a Friendly Match between Leek and Wolstanton and after a fantastic days golf we managed to win convincingly 7-1, it was attended by the Seniors Captain and Vice-Captain who as expected won their matches.
THE GENTLEMEN OF LEEK GOLF CLUB V STAFFORDSHIRE LADY VETERANS COUNTY TEAM
Last Monday a team of 20 members accepted the challenge of playing some of the best County Lady Veteran players over the Leek course as part of a series of warm up events before the forthcoming season. The Ladies were selected from all over the County and were thrilled to receive their County uniforms from their Captain Sue Simmons and their Vice Captain our very own Jenny Cordon. "We all know how fortunate we are at Leek with the condition of our course and in particularly our greens but for this prestigious match it was fantastic. Lincoln Boulton and the Greens staff have done an amazing job over the winter and continue to exceed our expectations" said the Club Captain Dave Gallimore. Sue Simmons the Lady Captain who is a member from Sandwell remarked on how good the condition was as went on to say that our course at the moment, is better than the likes of Little Aston and Whittington Heath.
The match itself was a good battle played in the best of sporting traditions with the Gentlemen winning by a score of 6.5 to 3.5 with many games reaching their climax on the 18th green. As always at Leek the Gentlemen offered wonderful hospitality to the Ladies and Jen Flavell and her team once again provided good quality food at a fair price.
Club Vice Captain, Trevor Eccleston who organised the match would like to thank everybody who represented Leek Golf Club during their respective matches and would also like to thank the Ladies of the County Veterans Team for making the social side of these friendly matches such a positive experience for everyone involved.
If anyone wishes to play in any of the friendly matches and help to promote Leek Golf Club within the golfing community please contact Trevor Eccleston on 07962 691350.

NEW MEMBERS CORNER
As your Club Captain I would like to introduce you to the 5 new members (pictured below).
Dave Lowe a retired Police Sergeant has been playing off a handicap of 19 at Leek Westwood but was previously a 5 day member at Leek back in the 1980s.
John Rogula has joined Leek because his son Greg has taken up the position as our Professional. John has previously been a member of Wolstanton (when Greg was a junior member) and more recently a member at Leek Westwood. He hopes in time to introduce his Grandson Austin to the game of golf at Leek.
Dennis Vincent, who plays off an impressive handicap of 8 after playing the game for only 2 years, hopes that our course will help him to lower his handicap. Dennis admits that he is a poor putter and expects the quality of the greens coupled with some lessons with Greg will see that part of his game improve this season. His close friend Greg rates Dennis's game and says that he is "sneaky long off the tee" so be warned if you meet him in one of the Club knockout competitions.
We also have a delightful husband and wife team join our Golf Club in the form of Reg and Eileen Fearman who have moved into the area recently from Henley on Thames. Prior to this Reg lived in Provence in France. Reg is a wonderful storyteller and I had the pleasure of listening to his time as a speedway rider. Eileen is pictured receiving a traditional welcome from Karen Griffiths our Lady Captain whilst Reg was introduced to the Club by David Robinson our Competition Secretary.
