CAPTAIN'S CHARITY 2014
HARRY BRINDLEY RECEIVES £2,000 FOR RONALD McDONALD CHARITY
Richard Brindley, Harry Brindley, Dave Gallimore (Captain 2014), Tracey Brindley & Chloe Brindley
Last year's Captain, Dave Gallimore, was thrilled to meet the Brindley family and present a cheque to them for £2,000 to assist with their extensive fund raising efforts in aid of The Ronald McDonald Charity House at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Dave proudly went on to say "On behalf of all the members at Leek Golf Club, it is a pleasure and a honour to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause. I know that Richard and Tracey, Harry's parents, have worked really hard raising over £9,000 by holding an auction, completing triathlons and various running events to say thank you to the Charity, following Harry's illness".
The generosity of Leek Golf Club members, in raising a total of £5,750 for last year's Captain's Charity, has also enabled the Club to purchase a specially designed motorised wheelchair for Horton Lodge Special School.
"Once again I would like to thank Ivor Povey for all his help in making my Captain's Charity appeal a successful one."
The Captain for 2015 Trevor Eccleston would like you to know that entries are now being accepted for this year's Charity golf event which will take place over the testing Leek course on Saturday 18th July.
RACE NIGHT
Saturday 25th April 2015
There was non-stop excitement when a Race Night experience came to our clubhouse on Saturday night.
Mike Andrews had arranged for 'host with the most' Anthony Knight to be the announcer of all eight races to be run on the night, culminating in a frenzy of activity and light-hearted banter throughout the proceedings.
With races pre-sponsored at £10 each, and horse owners paying the princely sum of £2 to enter their nags, all it was left to do was for the 'punters' to actually bet on the outcome at £1 per time.
The owner of each winning horse was to be given a quality bottle of wine.
There were certainly famous personalities present on the night-amongst the nouveau riche were Lord and Lady Gallimore, the Duke and Duchess of Rogula, Baron and Baroness Brindley from Meir Heath, Sir David of Endon and wife Marilyn, ably supported by the hoi polloi in the form of families Nixon, Robinson, Baxter, Weir, Povey and Andrews. Jake and Audrey added to the numbers.
Beth Andrews and Callum Nixon ran the tote desk, taking wagers from the punters (above) and once the odds had been fixed, each race was picked at random. Thanks to them for their particular hard work. Anthony enthusiastically commentated for all his worth, until the winner crossed the line.
1st Race Winners
Jen Cordon started the night off with what became the biggest individual win on the night, but for confidentiality (and HM Revenue and Customs reasons) the amount cannot be disclosed. Suffice it to say she's booked an extravagant holiday to the USA later this year!
Sometimes there was a photo-finish, which heightened the excitement, but the judge's decision was final.
The results were as follows:
Race Number Winner Horse Name Horse Owner
1. Yasser I Khan Bhuggi Andy Baxter
2. Pole Rider Angelo Bobbera
3. Hairy Clairy Claire Robinson
4. Izzy Wizzy Claire Robinson
5. In First Place Greg Rogula
6. Beff's Beauty Caroline Beff
7. Nag's Head Neil Neil Shenton
8. Stick to the Irons Clive Andrews
Claire Robinson in the Winners' Enclosure & Pete Nixon with his raffle prize.
Claire Robinson won the 'jammy dodger of the day' award for owning horses for two of the races, and Pete Nixon took the honours by winning the Lady Captain's Charity 1½ litre bottle of bubbly, earning £96 in the process for Donna Louise Children's Hospice.
Thanks must be expressed to Mike and Jayne Andrews for their unstinting work in setting up the evening, which was a great success for all concerned.

Leek Golf Club have been asked to provide three of its members for the County's Senior Team. Duncan Stott (2 h'cap), Dave Gallimore (4 h'cap) and Ross Martin (5 h'cap) gained representative honours last season and following a sequence of good results they have all maintained their places in a successful set which achieved the runners-up spot in the Midlands County League.
Club Captain Trevor Eccleston said "This is a fantastic achievement for these guys and a proud moment for Leek Golf Club. I am sure they will play well but most of all I hope that they enjoy the experience"
