PRO/CAPTAIN CHALLENGE

The Pro/Captain played the first match of the year against the man in form, Dave (Bo) Robinson and the man always in form, Mike Andrews.

After steady pars all round on the 1st hole, Bo started the ball rolling with a 4 net 3 on the 2nd leaving the Pro a 15ft.putt for the half. This was left 3ft short of the hole so that it was first "blood" to the challengers - Pro/Captain 1 down.

On the 3rd the Captain holed a 5ft putt for a 5 net 4 to win the hole bringing the match to all square.

On the 5th Bo hit the green in regulation and easily made the 2 putts for a 4 net 3 leaving Greg to hole a 4 footer for a birdie. This he did, rolling it straight into the middle of the cup for the half.

The 6th was easier for the Pro/Captain, winning with a par - Pro/Captain 1 up.

Moving on to the 7th, Greg, Mike and Bo all missed the green but Mr Captain put his to 20ft and 2 putts were enough to put the Pro/Captain 2 up.

The 8th provided some controversy as Bo hit his ball into the trees and managed to be right up against the only staked tree on the course! Having agreed to relief, and feeling somewhat hard done by, Greg then hit a big hook from the trees on the right to 8ft from the pin which put the pressure on Dave and Mike.

Mike tried to replicate Greg`s shot but ended up on the 1st green! Greg`s 2 putts` par secured the hole - Pro/Captain 3 up.

The 9th hole was halved in net pars.

On the 10th, Mike and Bo changed their "batting order" thinking this might help. However, Greg pulled out his best shot of the day, putting a "rescue" club shot from 211 yards to within 4ft of the hole and believing that 2 putts would win the hole. Bo then pitched from 40 yards to within 6" to make a birdie and put the pressure on Greg but he rolled the 4 footer straight in for an eagle - Pro/Captain 4 up.

A fantastic up and down was produced by the Captain on the 11th after Bo and Mike had secured a 4 net 3. He rolled in a sliding left to right, downhill putt for a 3 net 2 - Pro/Captain 5 up.

Standing on the 12th tee and thinking the match was won after the Captain had put his drive safely up the middle, Greg went with the driver, putting his in the centre of the green. Surely, the end was nigh. Bo and Mike both pressed on by hitting the green in 2.

Having put his first putt to within 6", Greg expected to pick up his ball but the birdie was NOT conceded. Mike then casually knocked his putt in for a birdie and still made Greg put-out from 6"! Pro/Captain still 5 up with only 5 to play and NO MORE GIMMIES!

On the 13th hole, the Captain comfortably hit the back of the green but Mike hit the shot of the day with a 165yd 7 iron into the wind to 8 ft. He could not convert this into a birdie but the 3 net 2 was enough to win the hole. - Pro/Captain 4 up.

The 14th and 15th saw Bo par both, winning them with strokes and keeping the match alive. Could this be the comeback they had been hoping for? - Pro/Captain still 2 up.

On 16th, Greg, Mike and the Captain were all on the green for 3 with the Captain to putt first - and its in!! Mr Captain "seals the deal" by rolling his 20ft putt straight in.

A big thank-you to Dave and Mike for taking part and if anybody else would like to challenge Greg and Trevor please see Greg or Jake to book a time.
