MEMORIAL CLOCK
Following requests from members, I have inserted an illustration of the memorial clock sited in its proposed location. I trust you all agree that this is a fitting memorial to two very popular and much respected members, John Sharratt and Martyn Stevenson. It has been made possible by a substantial donation from John's wife, Ann, who requested that the memorial include John's longstanding and dear friend, Martyn.
BYELAWS
I am pleased to report that last year's review of club byelaws was completed in time to be included in this year's Fixture List.
I would emphasise that the purpose of the rules is to maintain appropriate standards and facilitate the smooth running of the club and wide consultation with members was undertaken prior to any changes being adopted.
The byelaws don't make good bedtime reading and whilst a few members may scrutinise the updated rules I am sure that the majority will not. Consequently I thought it appropriate to highlight the major changes:
Interpretation - Account will be taken of the spirit of a rule and interpretation will not be limited to the letter of the rule.
Enforcement & Policing - Members should not personally address individual breaches of club rules but should report any breach to a member of staff, the professional or a member of the management committee who will determine the appropriate course of action.
Electronic Communication Devices - The use of such devices in voice mode is extended to the car park whether or not in a vehicle.
E-Smoking Products - The use of such products is prohibited within the clubhouse premises.
Age Restrictions - Minimum age for children to be unaccompanied on club premises including the golf course is 10 years.
Minimum age for children to use the clubhouse unaccompanied after 8pm (6pm in winter) has been reduced to 16 years.
Minimum age for the driver of a ride-on buggy has been reduced to sixteen.
Members' House Guests - Do not have to sign the visitors' book or pay a visitors' fee when attending a club function or dining at the club.
Sports Bar - Is designated as a special area where formal requirements may be relaxed.
Patio Area - Is designated a special area where formal dress requirements may be relaxed.
Dress Code - The requirement to wear jacket and tie after 20:00 hours on Saturdays is replaced by a requirement of "smart casual wear". The requirement to wear jacket and tie at other specified functions is to be removed and replaced by the requirement, "as specified by the Club Captain".
Jackets or sweaters must be worn with a collared shirt or roll-neck garment.
Sports footwear must not be worn in the lounge or dining area.
The definition of tailored shorts excludes cargo style garments.
The requirement to wear sports socks with shorts is removed.
Tuesday Competitions - The professional (incl. Assistant) may authorise play from or through the first tee during a period when the tee is reserved for competition if it is not in use by competitors.
Single Seat Buggies - The restriction on the number of buggies is removed.
The aim of the review was to update the rules to current standards and, whilst all the changes may not be met with universal approval, I hope you will join me in congratulating Barry Hughes and Peter Mottram for their hard work in carrying out the review and Past Captain, Dave Gallimore, for "striking the match".
Although not involving changes I have been asked to remind members that practice chipping greens are NOT intended for "full" approach shots. Also that trolleys should not be taken over the fringes of greens, including areas between the green and any greenside bunker.

QUIZ NIGHT - 2
Last Saturday saw the second social quiz evening take place. Hotly contested by nine teams who all enjoyed 8 rounds of questions varying from Science to 'Repeats' and History to 'Starting with O' among the challenges. Some familiar faces were gluttons for punishment having attended before while other fresh faces were eager for the competitive test. The introduction of the Joker round proved an interesting twist, where, when used, doubled the points received for that round. The scores could not have been closer going into the last round as ten points separated the first four teams. It all proved too much for "2 MANY" as they received the consolation Choc`s.
Winners on this occasion were "TEAM TOWNSEND" with 180 pts. comprising Charlotte, James, Kate and Stewart Townsend - a family affair! Closely following were "4 OVER PAR" including Chris & Eric Birch, partnered by Gareth & Morag Jones with 172 pts.
The Rollover question for £100, "Which country has the highest pyramid?" was seriously discussed, but unfortunately not answered correctly, meaning that on the next Quiz evening - Thursday 26th March 7pm, the Rollover will be worth £150!!!!! SEE YOU THERE IF YOU DARE!!!!
