VALENTINE'S DISCO
Last Saturday saw the first disco social event at the club and a sigh of relief by the organisation that the room looked particularly romantic and welcoming after the recent refurbishment upheavals!! It was enjoyed by all those who attended with each lady receiving a complimentary rose, and great musical entertainment by Decade Discos, whose light show was spectacularly professional. As you can see in the photos, we made use of the new LED coloured lighting round the window pelmets which will enhance any private functions (birthdays, receptions, anniversary) you may like to book with the House Manager in the future. They are multi-functional, in any chosen colour, from individual sequences to still, calm mood lighting.
See you at the next social function on Sat. 28th Feb. Quiz night 2. 7pm start. £100 ROLLOVER!!!
CAPTAIN'S MESSAGE FEBRUARY
There is no doubt that time flies as you get older. The course closure a week or so ago already seems a distant memory as we start to prepare for the new season. Perhaps it was inevitable that we would see some snow this year given the kind winters of the past two years. However, we can but hope that there'll be no more.
It's an ill wind....etc. and if we were to have snow it couldn't have come at a more convenient time for the clubhouse refurbishment. The lack of footfall in the clubhouse gave the contractors a clear run and created little if any inconvenience to those few members who had nowhere better to go. The refurbishment itself has generated positive reaction and the only criticism that I'm aware of is, "it's about time." Of course I am not ignoring the diminishing effect of our dated furniture but it is extremely difficult to identify a modern design that is sufficiently versatile to satisfy the multifunctional needs of a small clubhouse with limited storage capability. And then there's the cost! However, you can be assured that the issue is under serious consideration. Also, I can confirm that the lounge glazing will be replaced and carpet purchased to protect the refurbished dance floor.
As planned, the refurbishment was completed in time for the first major social event of the year, the "Valentine's Dance". What a good night! It certainly bodes well for the rest of the year and it would be remiss if I didn't record my sincere thanks and congratulations to the House Chair and the Lady Captain for their commitment and enthusiasm. They have already started to prepare a busy schedule of social events and would welcome ideas from members so please don't be backward in coming forward with new ideas.
Preparations for the new teaching facility are progressing well and you may have noticed that a couple of trees have been felled to allow for extended foundations. The removed trees will replaced by suitable shrubs to ensure that the building will blend in with the environment. I am sure you will all be happy with the finished product and I am pleased to report that completion will be within budget and on time, weather permitting.
Also I am pleased to report that you will soon see, the installation of a commemorative clock made possible by a generous donation from the wives of two late members, John Sharratt and Martyn Stevenson. This twelve feet high structure will be located in a prominent position adjacent to the clubhouse and is certain to enhance the stature of the club.
The recent proposed changes to the course certainly caused much discussion amongst members but now implemented seem to be universally accepted as significant improvements. Congratulations to Lincoln and John Turner for their foresight and keeping us ahead of the game.
The success of the club is down to the strength of our membership and feedback from members is essential for our future success. It is a members club so, "Have your say" and contact our Hon. Secretary if you have any ideas. He will ensure they are forwarded to the "steering group" for evaluation.
I am pleased to report that it has been decided to maintain the enhancements to our membership package and so members will continue to benefit from: Personal Liability Insurance, County Card, Concession to invite up to three guests on one occasion free of charge.
It's approaching the end of February, the nights are drawing out, spring flowers are appearing and heavy snow is looking less likely with the approach of Spring. This is my favourite time of year, knowing that warmer times are ahead when we can do what we all enjoy best. "Fingers crossed!"
Best Regards,
Trevor Eccleston, Captain LGC.
