CAPTAIN'S MESSAGE TO MEMBERS
We are fast approaching the completion of my first month in office and the main topic of conversation is the weather. Leek and the Staffordshire Moorlands have had particular mention on the national weather reports as being amongst the worst areas affected by snow. Nevertheless I am pleased to see that a slow thaw is taking place and we are hopeful that the course will be open by the weekend so please keep in contact with "course information" and listen to the dulcet tones of Greg or Jake. The resilience of our course never ceases to amaze me but please be mindful that some areas, particularly those where recent work has taken place will need protection.
If you intend visiting the club this weekend please be aware that access to the lounge and main bar area will be restricted in preparation of the much needed refurbishment of these areas. It is anticipated that there will be some disruption for a couple of weeks. In the meantime it will be business as usual from the sports bar.
I am sure you are all looking forward to the new season and I am pleased to report that 2015 Fixtures Diary should be ready for distribution by the end of the month.
As you may well know I have always enjoyed and been a keen supporter of social functions and I thank our Vice Captain and the Lady Captain for agreeing to take the lead in organising club events. The first event, a quiz has already taken place, and it was so successful that we aim to hold similar events on a regular basis. Other social events for your diaries include:
o Valentines Night" disco on Saturday 14th. Feb.
o Another quiz night on Saturday 28th. Feb.
o Mother's Day will be celebrated on Sunday 15th. March (so enquire your with Jen. For the dinner arrangements)
As your Captain, I am responsible for a variety of golf events and to ensure their success I need your support. Therefore I take this early opportunity to invite you to consider participation in my match against Staffordshire County Lady Veterans on Monday 23rd March and my Captain's Day Out at Druids Heath Golf Club on Friday 12th June. Also I can confirm that Saturday 20thJune is the scheduled date for Men's Invitation Day". There are a number of other events that will be publicised in due course but in the meantime I have posted a notice in the locker room where members can indicate their availability and willingness to participate in club matches. I can also give early confirmation that I intend to continue the Captain/Pro Challenge and the Lady Captain and Greg have agreed to arrange a Mixed Challenge.
I aim to serve you in the best traditions of Leek Golf Club and welcome your support.
Good luck and best wishes to you all.
Trevor Eccleston
Captain
