Your Handicap index (an explanation to follow later) will replace your current Handicap and will be calculated by taking the average of your best 8 scores from your last 20, using your previous recorded scores from as far back as 2018. The calculations will be automatically updated and maintained by our computer software and adjusted whenever you submit a competition or supplementary score. Be aware that the more scores you have submitted, and the more recent the scores are, the more accurately your Handicap Index will reflect your playing ability. For new members, and existing members who have fewer than 20 scores recorded, the table shows how their Handicap Index will be calculated. The WHS has been developed by the R&A and USGA, in collaboration with existing handicap authorities, over several years. WHS comes into play on 2nd November 2020 in Great Britain and Ireland and will replace the current CONGU handicapping system. It will be part of a system used by over 15 million golfers in 80 countries worldwide. The WHS system is designed to: - Attract more players to the game
- Make handicapping easier to understand
- Give all golfers a *Handicap Index that can be transferable from club to club
It has been created to allow as many golfers as possible the opportunity to: - Obtain and maintain a *Handicap Index and reduce barriers of entry
- Use their *Handicap Index on any golf course around the world
- Compete, or play recreationally, regardless of where they play
With one standard set of rules governed by the R&A and USGA it makes sense to unify the previous six different Handicapping systems making for a more inclusive and fair sport. New players to golf will initially only be required to submit scorecards for 54 holes to acquire a *Handicap Index, making the new WHS less formidable to players when first taking up the sport. Between now and 2nd November 2020, members will receive explanations of the various aspects of the WHS. *Handicap Index: Will be the name used instead of ‘Handicap’. A full explanation will follow on a future e-mail. Any queries should be sent by e-mail to matchsecretary@leekgolfclub.co.uk The office enquiries@leekgolfclub.co.uk are unlikely to be able to answer WHS queries. M Barker (Match Secretary) 21/09/2020 |
