CAPTAIN'S NEW YEAR MESSAGE
Happy New Year everyone to 2015
Although "Christmas" to me is a very enjoyable time of the year I can't say that I am sorry that it's over for another 12 months.
Generally, our year-end club functions have gone very well, especially New Year's Eve when the evening seemed to fly so quickly, thanks to Jen and her staff behind the scenes providing us with a fabulous buffet, Trevor Smedley behind the bar serving drinks with what seems a permanent smile, and of course the regular club members that create such a good atmosphere, and hoping that next year we can also entice the "not so regular members" to join us, it really was a good night to remember.
New Year's Day also went very well, I held my "Drive-in" at 12:30, inviting the Lady Captain, Senior's Captain and our Junior's Captain to hit a drive from the 1st. tee, which whilst hoping not to appear complete idiots in front of a somewhat rowdy enthusiastic group of onlookers we all managed to make ourselves look respectable and fairly accomplished which I think was something of a miracle particularly on my part because if anyone was likely to duff-it , it was undoubtedly going to be me !!
In addition I need to thank Andy Baxter my Vice Captain and his wife Jayne the Lady Captain (2015) for providing and putting on a fantastic "Ploughman's" lunch, ably assisted by Jen and Caroline who were sorting out the lounge putting things back in order from the previous night and getting the tea and coffee ready, and may I say, a big thank you to all our members who turned up to make this such a big success.
During my working life, I used to measure the success of the "Christmas" break by the number of times I was able to play during the period, but due to the snow covering I think this would have been a bit of a let-down this year, but "Hey-ho" I'm retired now and able to play more often, and the snow has gone for the time being, so we can get back to what we like doing best.
As ever, time marches on and the clock ticks, and the club is preparing itself for the oncoming playing season, so I would like to advise you all that the fixture booklets will become available by the end of this month so that you can sort out your own personal agendas, I would also draw your attentions to the major functions, Opens, and Invitations, which will be advertised and displayed with suitable notice.
You will have noticed, that we are making significant changes around the course to improve the playability and presentation of certain areas, of which I am sure will significantly improve those locations.
Likewise, we are going to replace the "Teaching bay" with a suitably improved building to enhance the facility as described at the "AGM", these works are already in-hand, and our aim is to have this project completed by the start of the playing season ie. By April. (Weather permitting), so look for developments between the ladies 16th tee and the 15th fairway which I hope won't prove too discomforting for a few weeks.
And just before I sign off this newsletter I would like to let you know that serious consideration is being given to enhance the appearance of the lounge area so don't be surprised to see some changes in the coming weeks.
So, all the best for the New Year and let's make this a good one for each and every one.
