LADIES CHRISTMAS DINNER & PRESENTATION EVENING

On December 2nd Lady Captain Jayne Baxter welcomed 70 ladies to our annual Christmas dinner and Presentation evening. On arrival we were met with drinks and canapés which were very well received. Jen Flavell and her staff did us proud as the table presentation and meal were very good. Judging by the laughter and chatter round the tables everyone appeared to enjoy themselves. At the end of the meal Jayne handed over to Karen Griffiths to present the medals and trophies which took place in her year as Lady Captain. Our thanks go to Lincoln Boulton for taking photographs of our trophy winners.

The trophy winners were as follows:

Hay bowl - Jenny Cordon
Haybowl Plate - Gill Damjanovic
Nicholson Trophy - Ursula Smith and Wendy Marriott
Stableford Trophy - Joy Briggs

Rushton Trophy - Janet Gilbert
Centenary Cup - Susan Watson
Past Captain's Trophy - Dot Cowburn
Mary Freeman Trophy - Natalie White
Bayley Trophy - Leann Nixon
Nancy Close Trophy - Pat Beeson
Miller Trophy - Joy Briggs

Congratulations also went to Jenny Cordon who represented Leek Golf Club in the Charles Heeley Challenge Bowl. Jenny travelled to Worchester with Karen Wilshaw to take part in this charity event.

Leek Golf Club now display this trophy, thanks to Jenny who was the overall winner on the day.

And one for the Daft hat corner ...

TRACKMAN

My latest Trackman lesson was Ian Pugh (16 handicap)

To start the lesson Ian hit some balls with his 7 iron to get some figures and enable me to have a look and analyse his swing.

After looking at Ian's swing and figures I could see that his attack angle and club path were very good, but he wasn't hitting the ball far enough and this was because he was only swinging half way back with very little wrist hinge.

Ian's average figures for his normal swing were:

Carry (yds)          Total (yds)        Club Head Speed (mph)            Ball Speed (mph)

133.0                   154.8               68.5                                            100.1

What I then got Ian to do was to extend his backswing, once we did this his figures were

Carry (yds)          Total (yds)        Club Head Speed (mph)            Ball Speed (mph)

150.2                  164.0                 75.9                                          107.3

After Ian started to feel comfortable doing this we needed to get the wrists hinging correctly with the extended swing and the results that came out were hugely impressive.

156.3                  170.2                 79.8                                          110.4

As you can see from the figures by changing Ian's swing to improve his club head speed by just over 11 mph his carry distance gain was 23 yards on his 7 iron.
