Firstly and most importantly, I hope you are all safe and well during this terrible time. It goes without saying that the health of our staff, members and their families are in our uppermost thoughts. I think we’ve seen the devastation that this disease is causing all over the world and realise that golf isn’t that important in the scheme of things. That being said, most of us are looking forward with great anticipation, the day when we can get back out there playing again. I just wanted to give you a quick update about the course and what’s been happening. Fortunately, the greens team are all safe and well and working hard on getting the playing surface ready for our return. Those of you who have access to our Facebook page, may have seen some recent photos. I have to say, the golf course is in tremendous condition. The greens have almost recovered from deep tining and sand dressing. The fairways look absolutely amazing with freshly cut stripes all over. The truly amazing thing is this. Not one pitch mark to be seen on any green and most of the divots on the fairways, have disappeared. When we do eventually start playing, I ask you, no, I beg you, please repair your damage. It really does make an amazing difference.
Obviously, you will know John Turner was leaving us to pastures new. However, the situation that befell us, put a temporary stop on changes that were about to be made. We felt, it was a terrible time to have drastic changes to our team and all parties concerned agreed to put it all on hold for the time being. I honestly can’t thank John and his team enough for how well they’ve all worked during these unprecedented times. The professionalism they’ve shown has been fantastic. We’ve had to furlough one of our staff for the time being as we look to save costs, but it has had no detrimental effect on the course, as we’ve prioritised areas of most importance. I just wanted to finish on a final thank you. Our captain for next season, Kevin Perkin has purchased a petrol hover mower for the team. We found our old one had conked out and contacted me to say he wanted to help. I really appreciate the very kind gesture and thank him for his support. Greens Chairman
