Greens update
I'd just like to update you all on issues we have during this truly awful situation in relation to our course. We are doing the very best we can in the circumstances, to keep the course open and in a playable condition. We have removed all bunker rakes as they are an obvious source of contamination. If you play in a group, simply have a discussion about what to do if you go in them. As long as you all agree to either pick and place, play it as it lies or declare bunkers GUR, it's your call. A lot of clubs are doing various things with the flags. Some are removing them altogether, some are raising the cup above ground so all you have to do it hit it. We've decided, for the time being, to just leave the flags in. The new cups and flags will be going back in soon, as these sit much better in the cups so you can putt with the flag in at all times. Our staff are extremely important to us and we must do our best to protect them. Without them, the course would be unplayable. We are constantly looking at different arrangements for them to keep the chances of infection down. They may be working different hours from what you're used to seeing to keep them apart from each other. Please don't go too close to them. Remember, you're there by choice, they're not. These are unprecedented times and things change on an almost daily basis. However, if we are careful, golf can be one of the safest forms of exercise, both physically and even more so at the moment, mentally. We will endeavour to keep the course open for as long as we're allowed to. We will try and get the course in the best condition we can and as such will be following the programme we set out at the start of the year. We need to plan for the eventual resumption of normality when it eventually happens. Therefore, we will be hole coring the greens next week. We have to hope that, at some point in the near future, we can get back to "proper golf" and we will still try and get ready for that. Stay safe Mark Shea |
