Members Information evening
Wednesday 4th March the club will be holding an information evening, which we encourage all members to attend. Covering the subjects of:
BRS Online Tee Time Booking System An introduction of the booking system by Rob King from BRS. He will provide an overview and an explanation as to how the online booking system will work. We would encourage representatives from any roll-ups groups to attend.

Held by Neil Boulton, Marketing & Communications Director. Looking at ways we can get messages out to you quicker & more effectively going forward.

Second quiz night
Last Friday saw another successful quiz gathering of those gluttons for intellectual punishment! Seven teams gathered: ‘Secret 7’,’Guess Who, Nick’, ‘Better Late Than Never’, ‘Three Birdies and an Eagle’, ‘Playing at Home’, ‘We Know Nothing’ and ‘Saturday Morning Club’. Although a number of regulars were missing, we greeted new faces to teams and were heartened to have a spectator, who promises to join a team next time.
In addition to the usual 8 rounds of 5 questions on a variety of topics, ranging from “Time for a P!” to “Pot Luck” the teams had 3 bonus rounds to complete throughout the evening. These included a picture round (Name the Heroes), a Word Circle and Spellbound (the letters of answers creating another final answer!). Panic ensued as ‘Saturday Morning Club’ were obviously in a different time zone and hadn’t realised that there were 3 extra bonus rounds and only did 2 :(, this cost them dearly but they seemed happy with the chocolate Smarties booby prize. “Guess Who, Nick” (a team of four) scored well with 119 to win, only three points ahead of ‘Secret 7’, who were only six! |
Thanks go to Andy Baxter, our quiz master, who works hard to produce a balanced mixture of easy, searching and teasing questions to suit the quizzers. Lady Captain again thanked everyone for their support of her charity, ‘The Sepsis Trust’, achieving £55. Not forgetting the workers on the night, Chris on the bar and Jayne Baxter, waitress extraordinaire, who served drinks and prepared a warm, welcoming atmosphere for all to enjoy. The fact that teamsters seemed reluctant to go home was a tribute to the efforts made.

The next quiz and final one before the season will be on March 20th, 7.30pm prompt start. To help with printing of material, can those intending to come to give Andy or Jayne a heads up a couple of days before so that we’re not short on copies. We are expecting a great turnout – see you there. |
Fun Friday - 21st February 2020
Another success! 13 enthusiastic members braved the wind (and later the rain) to enjoy Fun Friday. Lots of chat, laughter and good golf around the course. Back in the clubhouse smiles and rosy cheeks all round. The chat continued over a drink or two and tasty food for many. Hazel and Angela (on Angela’s debut too) graciously took the money from those who joined the friendly competition. Before leaving everyone voted for another game on 6th March, 12.45 in the clubhouse for tee off at 1pm. This event is a social game for all levels of golf. Singles, doubles, non-competitive or competitive, you choose. 10 hole - a warm welcome for everyone.

Sharpen up your Short Game
After successful short game group lessons last year, Assistant Professional Jacob will be holding another series of short game group lessons. These lessons will guarantee to improve your short game and help lower those scores! Over the course of the lessons all areas of the short game will be covered:
• Chipping/Pitching
• Bunker play
• 50 – 100 yards
• Putting
Saturday 28th March 1pm till 2pm – Chipping/Pitching
Saturday 4th April 1pm till 2pm – Bunkers & 50 to 100 yards
Saturday 11th April 1pm till 2pm – Putting
Spaces are limited!

Last week we revealed a remarkable statistic regarding the number of golfers playing grips that are over a year old, but what impact does that actually have on your game? Well, we decided to do some digging... |
 | | Tension whilst gripping |
Grips are made from rubber and are prone to wear and tear, just like the tyres on your car. When they become worn, your grips will lose tackiness and your hands will start to slip during the swing, resulting in poorer shots.
The thing is, you’ll likely overcompensate by holding on to your clubs too tight, creating more tension and stiffness during the swing.
