STAFFORDSHIRE PGA MATCHPLAY

Monday 13th October Greg took part in round 1 of the Staffordshire PGA Matchplay competition, the top 16 Professionals qualified from Little Aston in March. In the first round he was drawn against Joe Docksey from Branston, in what can only be described as poor golf from both players Greg found himself 2 down with 4 to play. He managed to get the score back to all square after 18 holes and eventually went on to win the match on the 3rd play-off hole.

The weather in the afternoon had worsened with the greens starting to fill up with water, an excuse Greg would have liked to have used for his poor putting but nobody would have believed him. Once again he found himself 2 down with 4 to play against Richard Copsey from Enville, this time however he managed to win the last 4 holes to win the match 2up. In 18 holes he'd never been so wet, he thought he best have some Galvin Green sales items from the pro-shop.

This meant Greg had qualified for day 2 and would play against Barry Stevens from Beau Desert, Greg produced some of the best tee to green golf he had played for 18 months (even if he does say so himself!). However once again the flat stick let him down with too many costly 3 putts. In the end putting was the real difference and the 2010 winner Greg fell to a 3&2 defeat.
