MIXED FOURSOMES FINAL

On Monday 21st September 2014 at 15:00hrs the Mixed Foursomes Final took place at Leek Golf Club featuring:

Paula & Rob Parkes V Karen Wilshaw & Ralph Harrison

Karen & Ralph were to receive 7 shots. 
The 1st hole was won by Karen & Ralph in Par 1up. 
The second hole was halved in 5's (net 5 for Karen & Ralph).

The 3rd hole was won by Karen & Ralph with a 5 net 4 to go 2 up. Karen's tee shot was short of the fourth green and Rob hit a great tee shot to 6ft, Paula and Rob won the hole with par, back to 1.

5th Hole was won by Karen & Ralph in par, which following Ralph's tee shot was a surprise to all, the tee shot hit the top of the left hand trees and rebounded back over the fairway ditch to finish under the tree to the right of the path as you come down from the tees. Karen hit a great shot out onto the fairway to leave approx. 100 yards to the green, Ralph managed to hit the green but the ball was approx. 20ft from the flag however Karen just stepped up and sank the 20ft foot putt for par, back to 2 up.

Paula & Rob won the 6th in par back to 1 hole in it. 
7th hole was halved in 3's score remained 1 up to Karen & Ralph. 
Karen and Ralph won the 8th with a 4 net 3, back to 2up.

The 9th hole was halved in 4's and the 10th halved in 6's, score remains 2up to Karen & Ralph. The 11th was won by Paula and Rob back to 1 up.

On the 12th Karen & Ralph won the hole with a par 4 back to 2up and they had shots on the next 3 holes.

Both Ralph and Paula hit their tee shots on 13 into the left hand greenside bunker, Rob hit the ball to approx. 8ft and Karen miss-hit and left the ball in the bunker, Ralph managed to hit the ball dead to 6" and the putt was conceded for a 4 net 3, Paula's par putt skirted the hole, Karen & Ralph 3 up.

On the 14th hole Karen drove the ball just short of the second fairway bunker on the left leaving Ralph a mid-iron to the green which he managed to find leaving Karen an uphill 15' putt which she put to 1' and was conceded for a 4 net 3 and won the hole taking the score to 4 up with 4 to play.

The 15th hole was halved in 5's (net 5 for Karen & Ralph) to give the victory to Karen and Ralph 4 & 3. The game was played in a great spirit, loads of chat and encouragement being given to all parties.

JACKSON KNOCKOUT FINAL 2014 - IAN CURLEY (+2) v HARRY FEARN (5)

Ian Curley successfully defended his scratch knockout title with a 4&3 win over Harry Fearn. Ian had to be at his best to see of the challenge of Harry who was conceding 7 shots to Ian, the match finished on the 15th Hole with Ian's score standing at 2 under gross.

HAYBOWL FINAL - PETER CORDON (8) v DAVE SHARRATT (14)

On Thursday 25th September Dave Sharratt saw off the challenge of Pete Cordon to win the Haybowl Final with a 1 up victory. Both player said it was a tight game and up and down all the way through.

ROBERTS' CUP FINAL - PETER CORDON (8) v ANGELO BOBBERA (16)

Pete Cordon recovered from defeat in the Haybowl Final in the week to win the Roberts' Cup with a 5&4 win over Angelo Bobbera.

1ST TEAM v WOLSTANTON AWAY - SATURDAY 27th SEPTEMBER

Following defeat last week at home against Astbury, Leek travelled to Wolstanton for the final league game of the season currently 2nd in the league. 12 points ahead of Wolstanton but just 3 ahead of Westwood, a 10-2 win would guarantee promotion anything less would mean relying on Westwood slipping up.

Leek 6 - 6 Wolstanton

The 6-6 result was enough to gain promotion into the Premier Division for next season. Congratulations to the 1st Team and everybody that has played this season.

2ND TEAM v BROOKFIELD HOME - SATURDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER

In the last game of the season Leek hosted Brookfield, despite being safe in mid-table Leek wanted to finish on a high ready for a push for promotion nest season.

Unfortunately after 5 years as 2nd team Captain Mark Shea has decided to step down, on behalf of the club and all of the players that have played for the 2nd team over the last 5 years we would like to say a massive thank you to the time and effort you put in.

PRO'S SUNDAY WINTER LEAGUE - OPEN TO EVERYBODY

A reminder that the Sunday Winter League starts Sunday 19th October at 10am. The groups will be drawn on the day to play individual stableford - full handicap. Top 3 places (dependant on numbers) will be paid out cash, and top 5 allocated points towards the overall winter league.

STAFFORDSHIRE PGA WINTER ALLIANCE

The first Winter Alliance of the year was held at Penn Golf Club on Friday 19th September in tough scoring conditions I managed a respectable 34 points to finish 4th, unfortunately just outside the prizes. The team consisting of Dave Lowe, Dave Fowler & Robbie Woolliscroft also missed out but it was an enjoyable day apart from the rain.

If you are interested in coming to a Winter Alliance event with me please see the list in the corridor outside the pro-shop and put your name down. It is £40, which includes round of golf and meal afterwards with the chance of picking up prizes.

Wednesday 8th October - Trentham Park

MIZUNO FITTING DAY - LIMITED SPACES

Mizuno will be hosting a fitting day on Friday 14th November, 12pm till 4pm. There will be a professional Mizuno fitter with all custom fit clubs, if you would like to have a fitting or just to try the new Mizuno clubs please book a slot in the pro-shop.
