Recruitment and retention of members The measures introduced by committee which I referred to in last week’s Newsletter seem to be having a positive effect. Of course, these are early days and their eventual success remains to be seen. The furore of flexible membership!
I understand that this proposal has caused uproar in some quarters, but feedback suggests that the implementation of the scheme for “occasional golfers” has been misunderstood and/or is being misrepresented. The proposal and the background to its implementation are detailed in last week’s Newsletter, a copy of which remains in the members’ section of the club website with hard copies posted on the Secretary’s notice board and in the Professional’s shop. Please feel free to contact me direct if you require further detail or explanation. Whatever your views, the scheme poses little, if any, financial risk to the club as it has a very narrow appeal. To date only six members have found it beneficial. Nevertheless, it is six long standing members we haven’t lost! Denim
Your Committee has decided to relax the rules regarding denim wear in the clubhouse but not on the course. Committee was convinced by the argument that although denim had its origins in workwear, it was now universally regarded as a designer fabric. Therefore denim garments could not per se be treated as falling outside the description “smart casual wear”. Conversely, denim could not properly be regarded as a sportswear fabric and therefore the prohibition relating to denim wear on the course remains, as should prohibitions regarding workwear and torn garments. A month at the Gym (an addition to our membership package)
Our Professional has agreed partnership arrangements with a local leisure facility which offers our members a free month’s trial of their fitness suite, swimming pool, racket sports hall and more.
Please contact the office or our Professional for details of the arrangements. Keeping you posted, Hon. Secretary secretary@leekgolfclub.co.uk
