Course news

Course work update

Work is continuing on the drains on the fifth fairway and the hole will remain closed during the week until the work is completed, which should be soon. Vert-draining has now started on the greens and this will continue until all greens are done, once the verti-draining is finished on a green it will then be ironed/rolled to flatten out the work done. Any trees which have been cut down or come down in the wind will be cut up and removed during any frosty weather when normal work cannot be done.

After this weekend all tees will be moved to winter tees, this will then allow for the verti-draining and top dressing of the main tees. The turf for the 5th winter green and the 7th tee will be ordered and these two projects will be finished off before any further winter jobs are started.

Ladies AGM

The ladies' AGM will take place on Tuesday 27 November at 7pm. The agenda and accounts are now available in the ladies locker room. Any not collected within a week will be posted.

Pro's competition

Sunday 28th October we ran a Pro’s comp with the format being best two scores from four, with double points on Par-3’s.

1st place - Pete Nixon, Dave Robinson, Mike Andrews and Craig Stanier - 119 points (62 on the back 9)

2nd Place - Ian Hunt, Leon Bagguley, Peter Palfreyman and Stewart Wardle - 119 points (57 on the back 9)

What do you take from this?

As golfers, there's nothing more satisfying than a shot which is perfectly executed - even if it is a rare occurrence for many of us. It could be a booming drive which splits the fairway down the middle, or maybe a wedge shot which stops dead, two feet away from the hole. In fact, when you consider how often we use our wedges during a round of golf - see the graph below - the latter is something that we should all be striving to achieve.

So, what do you take from the graph above? In our eyes, it highlights just how important your short game is. We see a lot of you spending time hitting balls on the range, which is great, but don't neglect the less glamorous side of the game when practising - it's where your score is 'made'.
