CAPTAIN V PRESIDENT'S MATCH

Last Saturday saw this traditional fixture draw a close to the 2014 series of Captain's friendly matches. "It has been fantastic that so many members have supported these matches during my year as Club Captain and I have so many memories from the games played against other golf clubs. Several of the matches have been played for a trophy on a home & away basis and I am proud to say that we haven't lost any of the trophies to our opponents although we have had a halved result versus Astbury. Great credit must go to my Vice Captain for his efforts in organising these matches and to our House staff who have provided a friendly welcome and quality service to our guests on every occasion".

Club President John Carr commented "The game was played in wonderful weather conditions on a course that we are all very privileged to be members of and once again the catering was exceptional".

A total of 26 members participated in a friendly and sporting manner and the result was 5 - 3 in favour of the President's team.

STAFFORDSHIRE SENIORS SHINE IN NORTH WORCESTERSHIRE

This week saw 3 members of Leek Golf Club represent the County Seniors team against a strong Worcestershire side at the testing North Worcestershire Golf Club. Club Captain Dave Gallimore (4 h'cap) was partnered with club colleague Ross Martin (5 h'cap) for the morning foursomes and managed to squeeze home in a very tight match to take victory. Duncan Stott (h'cap 2) led from the front playing with Dave Glibborn from Beau Desert Golf Club and won at the last hole after his opponents 3 putted the final green. Staffordshire held a 5 - 1 lead going into the afternoon fourballs.

The successful morning pairing of Gallimore/Martin played well in the afternoon but lost to a resurgent Worcestershire team 4 &3 whilst Stott, now partnered with Keith Andrews again won on the last hole which Andrews had managed to birdie. The Staffordshire team held on to halve the afternoon fourballs resulting in an overall score of 11-7 in favour of the away team.

Dave Gallimore and Ross Martin have been selected to play at Wergs Golf Club next week in the final match of the season against Northamptonshire Seniors. Unfortunately for Staffordshire Stott has to return to work and is not available for selection.
