An Explanation All Competitions at Leek Golf Club are played under R&A and CONGU rules.
As to the complaints from a number of Members concerning the Handicap Allowances in place for the Darrel Cooper Trophy, these were in accordance with the conditions laid down by CONGU and were the same as were played in 2016 and 2017, when no complaints were received.
The issue appears to be with the maximum H/caps of 18 for Men, again these being the same as in 2016 and 2017. Traditionally, all ‘Honours Board’ competitions have a maximum H/cap of 18, as listed in our Fixture List, and all Four Ball Better Ball comps. are played with a 90% allowance resulting in H/Caps 16>18 losing 2 shots, 6>15 losing 1 Shot and 0>5 losing no shots.
I, as Match Secretary, have no objections to abolishing maximum h/caps and am leaning towards the view that your actual h/cap should be used in all competitions to create a more level ‘playing field’ for members of all abilities. This view is also supported by England Golf.
However, I think that a proposal of this nature would not be acceptable to the majority of our members, would be too important to be decided by Committee alone, and would probably have to be put to the AGM. If any members feel strongly, one way or another, regarding the above please make your comments known by e-mail to matchsecretary@leekgolfclub.co.uk.
NB – be aware that all of the above is likely to be changed with the introduction of the ‘Word Handicap’ in the Spring of 2020. M Barker (27/09/18)
