Improve your long game!

Members, who want to practice their long game may be interested in new partnership arrangements with local golf driving ranges whereby we promote their facilities and they publicise ours.

So far three venues have joined the venture:

These arrangements should compensate for our lack of practice facilities and also provide a target audience for new members, particularly those new to golf. Furthermore, driving ranges often provide an effective communications hub for local golfers and the ideal place to get our message across.

Kitchen Inspection

Following a kitchen inspection in June our local authority star rating was dramatically downgraded due to a failure to meet set criteria. These failures related to record keeping and training but the situation was particularly aggravated by a recording failure that had previously been brought to our attention.

Although the issues raised do not pose a significant threat to health and safety, they were taken extremely seriously and addressed immediately.

We have since been re-inspected and following the actions taken expect a return to our previous ratings. In the meantime the downgraded rating has been removed from the local authority website.

In the course of dealing with this matter the local authority recognised our previous history and positive approach to rectifying problems.

I hope I have clarified the matter and trust you are reassured.

On Monday 20th August all Greens will be over-seeded. As this work is carried out each Green will be CLOSED in turn. Please bear this is mind when completing your round.

Ladies' news

Lady Captain’s Away Day

27 ladies travelled to Davenport Golf Club in Poynton for my Captain’s Away Day.

On arrival we were greeted to a warm welcome from Chris in the office. An hour before the first group were due to play the heavens opened to this strange thing called rain! However, we were blessed, and before the first group had teed off the sky was changing to the beautiful blue colour we have been so used to seeing.

The courses was in great condition and a credit to the ground staff.

The half-way house was maned by my husband Pete and his partner in crime Joe Cumberbatch who were dressed in black tie attire serving Prosecco, strawberries and homemade cupcakes. They certainly entertained the ladies with their wit and charm.

The day was concluded with a beautiful meal, drinks and the presentation.

Winners:

1st place Janet Harden 37 points on count back.
2nd place Hazel McCrady 37 on count back
3rd place Nel Boulton 35 points.
Nearest the pin on the 2nd Lisa Davies.
Nearest the pin on the 16th Jennie Flower.

I cannot thank the ladies enough for their continued support and making the day so special with lots of happy and funny memories.

Competition news

How to mark a scorecard correctly...

Our current Scorecards are printed on a ‘waxed’ type of bright white card that does not readily accept a score written in pencil and therefore, I advise using a ‘biro’ or similar.

It is a requirement of the R&A that all Scorecards have to be stored for a period of two years and need to be collated and filed away. The reading of the card and the collation would be much easier if all members considered the following,

Columns ABCD are for Gross Scores Only. There is no need for 5/4 or 5/2, etc. leaving the whole of the ‘box’ for a larger more legible number. There is a column to the right for points or nett score.
‘Do the Maths’, add the scores at the bottom of each column. NB Do not worry about getting these totals correct, providing you have recorded your correct Gross Scores our system will correct any errors. However, do not ignore the totals as they greatly assist with declaring the results of Competitions and the collation procedure.
Fill in the large box (bottom right corner) with the total Nett Points (Stableford) or Nett Score (Medal) NB Do not use for total Gross Score.

Congratulations to Dan Smart and Phill Davies on winning The Golf Guide Tour event at The Belfry with 43 points, winning a holiday to Spain.

Next up is the Golf Guide Finals at Fairhaven Golf Club to try and win a trip to South Africa.

President's Day for ladies - Sunday 12 August

Although not the best day weather wise, the ladies section enjoyed the President's Day for ladies. The ladies particularly welcomed the excellent cakes and drinks at the millennium hut kindly provided by the President and his wife Janet.

The winners on the day were:

Nearest the pin -Nel Boulton (4th), Karen Griffiths (7th), Janet Hardern (11th).

The nine hole competition was won by Linda Forrester with Gill Poole in second place.

In the main 18 hole stableford competition the winners were Bronze division 1st Chris Birch 38 points 2nd Wendy Geston 3rd Lynne Ball Silver division 1st Jenny Cordon 38 points on countback 2nd Georgie Taylor 38 points 3rd Jennie Flower 34 points on countback

The overall winner of the President's prize was Gill Damjanovic with 39 points.

Well done Gill and all the other winners.

The Lady Captain thanked the President for the generous prizes and presented a bouquet to his wife Janet.
