Junior Match Vs Trentham Park With a number of lower handicap juniors unavailable the strength and depth of the junior team squad was called upon for the opening league match away at Trentham Park. The team makeup included Harry Flower, Corey Wentworth, Isaac Smith, Bo Robinson and Peter Malkin. The junior matches consist of five match play singles and the winning team with the most points on completion of the games. On another glorious day in Staffordshire, Harry lead off the team with a strong drive over the water on the intimidating 1st hole. Corey and Bo where both also successfully circumvented the hazard while Isaac and Pete were a little less fortunate as was the team manager playing social golf behind! The overall match turned into a very tight affair with Leek Juniors going out into an early lead as both Peter & Corey dispatched there opposition comprehensively 8&7 and 5&4 respectively. Trentham Park hit back with narrow wins over Harry (lost by 2) and Isaac (3&2) so it was all down to the last match. This was another very tight game but unfortunately for Leek Bo was just pipped on the last hole and Trentham Park took the overall match 3&2. Ultimately the difference probably came down to home advantage with all the Leek Juniors playing the course for the first time. This was however value match play experience for the squad all who acquitted themselves excellently. The proceedings were completed with Harry Flower stepping up to represent the team with a “churchillian” speech thanking Trentham Park for their kind in hosting us for the afternoon. |
