Junior section With the 2018 season getting ever closer, the Junior Committee held their first meeting of the year to discuss the way forward following the resignations of Peter Cordon as the Junior Organiser and Jenny Cordon as the Club’s Welfare Officer. I am sure that you will all join me in thanking them for all of the hard work and commitment over the last 14 years. I am sure that they have many happy memories and feel great pride when they see the Juniors from their time in Office, that they helped to develop as golfers, have now matured in to adult members of LGC and in some cases are pursuing a career in golf. The new Junior Organiser is Dave Gallimore who is a competent golfer himself. Dave joins the existing team of Pete Nixon, Bo Robinson and Adrian Holland who have the knowledge and experience necessary to run a successful Junior Section. Dave commented “Pete Cordon has done a great job over the years and we must also acknowledge the support that he has had over the years from his assistants. I have been impressed with Pete, Bo and Adrian throughout their involvement and I will do my best to ensure the continued development and success of all our juniors in the future. It is important that we, as members, appreciate the time and effort that volunteers put in to the Club and that we acknowledge the need for an active Junior Section to provide opportunity, guidance and enjoyment for young people to play this great game.” Following Jenny’s resignation, it was imperative that a new Welfare Officer was appointed before the start of the season. Jenny was very experienced in the role and provided LGC with a safe and secure base for the Club to work from. Her help, assistance and guidance over her time as the Club’s Welfare Officer has been much appreciated. We have been very fortunate that The Club Secretary, Dave Brookhouse, has been able to step in to the breach. “It is vital that we have the right person in this role and I am thrilled that Dave as agreed to lend his expertise to the team” says Dave Gallimore. Last but not least, our Professional will be on hand to provide his expertise in coaching, teaching and development of young people in golf. Greg came through the junior ranks at Wolstanton before playing at County and Midland level. He has worked tirelessly at Westwood and Leek Golf Club with aspiring golfers and his successes speak for themselves. He remains passionate about improving and developing all juniors at LGC. May you all have an enjoyable and successful year in golf. Halfway houses As of this coming Sunday, 18th February, the Halfway House will be back open selling oatcakes and other refreshments. It will be run be Leann Nixon and Izzy Robinson so please make sure you take a pocket full of money with you. |
