Course Update We are sure that those members who have played in the last few weeks have noticed how wet and boggy certain parts of the course are becoming. The new greens committee are committed to keeping you informed of decisions that are taken as far as the course is concerned. With this in mind, there may be a need for us to close certain parts of the course to give it an opportunity to recover from any heavy traffic it may have had. We can assure you that the green staff are working very hard and wish to keep all the course and greens open whenever possible. We would remind members that it is also their responsibility to help keep the course in the best possible condition during this time of year and welcome your support by adhering to the following; 1. Please make sure that you stick to all the paths where possible. Avoid removing any blue plastic rope stakes or crossing into areas which are roped off, as they are there to protect badly worn areas. 2. Please also avoid any areas which are really wet, heavily worn or extremely muddy by walking at the side of the fairways and in the semi rough, as this will help recovery before the coming golf season.
3. It has also been brought to our attention that some people are taking a short cut with trolleys across the 10th medal tee to reach the 6th tee after playing the 5th. Could we please remind people that trolleys should not go over or onto any of the summer tees.
4. Please make sure that all divots are replaced and trod well in and if possible do this even when they are not your divots. 5. Please repair all pitchmarks when playing to the permanent greens, we should then see an improvement on damage to the greens.
6. We would ask members who can carry their clubs to please do so during the very wet conditions to help with preventing wear and tear on the course.
The bunker upgrade on the 4th is continuing and subject to the weather will be finished by the end of next week. It has now been decided following discussions to build a permanent winter tee at the front of the 11th tee, this will be a 4m wide tee approached directly from an extended path. Everyone will then follow the path and walk down the 11th in the trees on the left hand side. Because of the damage being caused around the 4th green and in front of the 4th winter green we have decided to make a permanent winter tee for the 5th at the bottom of the path by the drainage ditch, this will shorten the 5th hole but reduce wear and tear on the 4th surrounds during the very wet conditions. Tree removal will continue when work cannot be done on the bunker upgrade.
Proposed Course Change Move the 13th medal tee on a permanent basis. The 13th top yellow tee will be stripped levelled and relayed this month subject to the weather. It is then the intention of the committee to use this as the medal tee and the front winter tee will become the main yellow tee. This change will take place as soon as the newly laid tee is playable, until it is playable we will continue to use the existing medal tee. The reasons for this are as follows; 1. This will make the 13th tee our signature hole, as the STRI consultant has commented that it would make it one of the best holes on any course in the Midlands.
2. The PGA always ask for this to be the main tee during the Pro/Am.
3. This is fully supported by our Professional.
4. Better playability for all handicaps.
5. Will improve slow play as people can see where their ball has gone more clearly.
6. Saves money by not having to cut down more trees.
Your committee would welcome feedback from members with regard to this proposal. Keeping you up to date. Greens Committee.
