I am pleased to report that, following a meeting with HMRC, our status as a Community Amateur Sports Club has been reinstated and, for the time-being, we continue to qualify for 80% rebate on Business Rates. Future qualification will be require the club to make changes to its membership application process in order to demonstrate that we are open to all without discrimination. The required changes will need approval by members at an Extraordinary General Meeting which must be held by Saturday, 30 September 2017. Details will be circulated in due course.

Our successful appeal has had an immediate £30,000 benefit and ongoing would benefit the club by over £20,000 annually. I am sure you will agree that these are "big numbers", particularly in the current financial climate.

 

Bar and Catering

Further to my earlier Newsletter, outlining the actions proposed to address previous years poor financial performance on bar and catering, I can confirm that Bernadette Kerrigan has been appointed as House Manager. Bernadette (Berny) takes up the role on Thursday, 30 March with a view to residing in the club flat when all refurbishment work has been completed. 

She will take on overall responsibility for our bar and catering facilities with the immediate target of achieving an annual profit of £20,000 on the bar and a break even position for catering provision. She will run the catering as her own business under arrangements that maintain the club's current VAT benefits and its position as employer of the catering staff.

Bernadette describes herself as mature, confident, reliable and highly resourceful with wealth of experience in the hospitality industry. She has been the bar manager at a number of city centre bars and recently was the front of house manager at a local golf club. For nine years she owned her own hotel with a popular bar and restaurant.

Committee trusts that members will give this new venture their full support and also recognise the contributions from Peter Cordon and the House Team for keeping facilities up and running at minimum cost over the winter period.

Resignations

M. Andrews, DJ Smith (Endon) and Mrs J Cordon have resigned their positions as Directors of Leek Golf Club Ltd.

I am sure you will all join Committee in thanking them for their contributions to the continued success of Leek Golf Club during their time in office.
