Captain's Prize Winner 2016 - Graham McFadden
My apologies to Graham for not recognising his achievement in our 2017 Fixture List I wrongly confirmed Anthony Burn as the winner before going to print, Anthony being the winner of Division 1 and not the Captain's Prize.

Head Greenkeepers Report
Dear Members,
The Winter programme is now nearing completion with just a few jobs to complete! Mainly relating to the tree management program. Of course, the ongoing inclement weather has been a hindrance when one is working to a tight time scale and the completion of a number of jobs has had to be rescheduled but all should be completed before the 2017 golfing season kicks in.
Since 2010 there has been a noticeable change in the local climate. We are experiencing far wetter winter and summers. my recorded rainfall data supports this statement. Myself and the green-keepers are proud to say we have managed to keep the course open when other clubs have been closed. At Leek, we are blessed with relatively good natural draining soils, which combined with a well implemented aeration programme has enabled our course to be played pretty much all through the winter period, with the exception of the 5th and 9th greens, these two putting surfaces are so frustrating due to being located at the lowest point of the course and are also at the mercy of the River Churnet and its unpredictable water levels. The only real way forward long term would be to raise these two putting surfaces to accommodate the water table!
Path extensions are planned when the course becomes more accessible to allow a JCB on site to enable improved access to the pathway which provides a route to the 13th tee. This is a huge must! as it is an ongoing problem on an annual basis. I have other path proposals planned which will allow the greens team to manage course traffic more successfully. Once the pathways are improved it will assist our courses all year-round playability for the benefit of both members and visitors alike.
The course tree management program is well underway and the benefits to Greens, fairways and tees will continue to be seen. The pace of play should also improve. The woodland management program is scheduled to be implemented over a number of years, with of course replacement trees being planted in appropriate locations.
Best Wishes for the coming season from the Greens Team.
