The Charles Heeley Challenge Bowl

Congratulations go to Jenny Flavell for achieving best gross prize in the Charles Heeley Challenge Bowl at Beau Desert golf club on 20th September. The Challenge Bowl was donated by Charles Heeley and has come to include clubs from the West Midlands. Since 1963 it has taken place in a different venue each year alternating between Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Worchester. The host club chooses the charity and this year all proceeds went to the Renal Unit at Birmingham hospital.

Jenny just missed out on bringing the trophy back to Leek by one stableford point. Nevertheless best gross is a fantastic achievement. Well done Jenny.


 

Members Notice 

The green staff have asked to remind all members that the white tees are for official competition use only, recently they have seen golfers practicing from the white tee. After a long season and to enable the tees to be in the best condition for the rest of the season please could you remember that any social golf must be played from the yellow tees. Thank you for your cooperation.

Arnold Palmer - (10/09/1929 - 25/10/2016) 

US golfer Arnold Palmer, viewed as one of the greatest and most influential players in the sport's history, has died at the age of 87. 

Palmer died at the UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was undergoing heart tests, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. During a long career he won more than 90 tournaments worldwide, including seven majors. The US Golf Association called him "golf's greatest ambassador".


 

ABBA Night 

The ABBA night was enjoyed by 83 guests. Although the quality was not as high as the Robbie Williams evening the entertainment was suburb with the dance floor full from start to finish and all guests left with a happy smile on their faces. A great big thank you to the organising team and the bar and catering staff for providing a great night. 

The next social evening is Friday 28th October with an adult comedy evening starring Ste Arnold a Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist. ***Warning not for the easily offended***. His alter egos are Keith Lemmon, Michael Jackson, and The terminator. Stu is also an accomplished impressionist and vocal impersonator and has signed a film contract with MGM. This is a real catch before he goes off to the US.
