Lady Captain's Away Day - Shifnal Golf Club

On Thursday 11th August 31 ladies made their way to Shifnal Golf Club for the Lady Captain's Day away. After being greeted on arrival with the all-important bacon bap and coffee, Lady Captain Pat Beeson tee'd off from the 1st with Ian Beeson acting as Mr Starter and Ray Woolley acting as photographer. We were lucky to have a lovely warm day to play this wonderful course which was in excellent condition. Nearest the pin competitions were held on the 7th and the 13th, the latter over the water with the backdrop of the white clubhouse - a wonderful sight.

Ladies arrived at the half way house to be served drinks and a selection of cakes. Scores on the back 9 certainly reflected on the amount of drink consumed here, some ladies score cards showing a deterioration in their play whilst some score cards showed it definitely helped their golf!

After the golf all the ladies moved into the restaurant to enjoy an excellent meal followed by the "Shifnal sweet trolley", a section of 6 sweets to choose from (which proved to be the hardest decision of the day) followed by coffee and mints.

3rd - Chris Birch & Ann Titley - 41 points

Winner of the competition Jenny Cordon thanked the Lady Captain for a superb day on behalf of all the ladies. Lady Captain thanked all the ladies for making it a wonderful day at Shifnal. She ended the day by announcing the next Vice Captain and Lady Captain for 2018 would be Lynn Ball - this news was received by cheers and applause by all the ladies.


 

Robbie Williams Tribute Act

A full house saw tribute act Dan Budd as Robbie Williams put on an amazing performance on Friday evening. The likeness and voice were astonishing. Dan was not only a superb vocalist but a great entertainer and nearly everyone got to their feet and danced the night away. His finale "Angels" was received with a standing ovation. Comments after the event were all positive with some guests stating "this was the best night at Leek Golf Club ever"

The benchmark has now been set for future events. It has been a great team effort to put the event together, Clare & Bo Robinson for booking Dan, Jayne Baxter for all the advertising, John Challinor, Caroline Knight Holland, Jade Wilkins, Linzi Shea and Matt Shea for their hard work on the night, thanks to them all.

The next Tribute act is solo artist Sarah Hewson covering ABBA. Sarah was part of the Bjorn Again world acclaimed tribute band and recommended by Robbie Williams. 

Saturday 17th September 19.00 for 19.30. Dress code relaxed. £15 per ticket including food. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Men's 9 Hole Golf Competitions 

The Club now have 3, 9 Hole courses registered with England Golf, off either White, Yellow or Red Tees, and all can be used for Handicap Qualifying Competitions. 

If you find it physically difficult to play 18 holes, or it's often too time consuming for a full round, playing 9 hole comps can ensure you meet the requirements to record a total of 54 holes of competitive golf in a year to retain your Competition Handicap for the following year (any combination, 6x9, 3x18, 1x18 + 4x9, etc.) 

Next week, commencing Monday 29th August 2016, 9 hole comps will be available every day, details of which are posted on the locker room notice boards. 

If there is sufficient interest these comps will be run on a regular basis, perhaps a mid-week evening with 'pie & peas' and prizes awarded on the night. Please let myself or the Pro's shop know if you would be interested in these Comps.

Sunday saw this year's pro's day take place, unfortunately the weather wasn't very kind with some heavy showers and strong winds. However this didn't seem to have an effect on the scoring with some fantastic scores being recorded. 

As in the past the beat the Pro challenge on the 11th was a great success and I enjoyed taking you all on for nearest the pin. Congratulations must go to the lucky few who managed to fluke a good shot and get it inside my effort, well done on doubling your money.
